A message from the principal: Mr. Collin Miller

Dear Nelson Families,

Welcome to our school community, where we prioritize the academic, social, and emotional growth of every student.  I am excited to serve as the Principal of such an exceptional school!  Together, we are committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages a love for learning and a spirit of excellence.

We value your active involvement in your child’s educational journey.  Your partnership as parents is vital to our success.  Open communication is key to our students’ success.  Our dedicated staff works tirelessly to provide meaningful opportunities that inspire creativity, critical thinking, and character development.

I am so proud to have served as a teacher, coach, Teacher on Special Assignment, Assistant Principal, and Principal in the Hacienda La Puente School District.  

We want students to “own their future”.   Elementary school is an important time to begin thinking about what students want to do or what they want to be when they grow up.  Our college initiative features Thursday spirit days, each classroom promoting a different college, and weekly highlights of college fun facts to foster a college-going mindset.  Our annual Career Day where students “dress for success” provides opportunities and experiences for individuals (many former Nelson alumni) to share their stories, their profession, and inspire students to set goals and persevere.   

Our school pillars (Responsible, Respectful, Safe, and Kind) set the foundation for our learning environment.  We recognize students for their positive behavior by having them earn “Nelson bucks” that they can save up and spend in our student store.
